Finger / Hand / Wrist Surgery

  • Blood thinning medications / anticoagulants
    • Blood thinning medications are to be ceased 7 days prior to your operation
    • Please discuss the cessation of your blood thinning medications with Dr Robinson
  • Hand therapy
    • To obtain the best outcome from surgery Dr Robinson Recommends that you attend hand therapy post the operation
    • Our staff will confirm your preferred location for hand therapy post operatively in addition to an appointment
  • Pre-operative wash
    • To decrease the perioperative risk of infection from your surgery Dr Robinson recommends 2 x pre-operative washes with 4% Chlorhexidine pre-operative body wash the night prior and the day of your surgery
  • Jewellery
    • Please remove all jewellery from the operative limb the day prior to surgery.
  • Skin integrity
    • Please inform Dr Robinson’s rooms of any blemishes / scratches / abrasions / wounds on the operative limb one week prior to surgery
  • Social Support
    • Please ensure that you have organised the following;
      • Social support person / family to collect you from the hospital and care for you in the days following your operation
      • Meals - pre-prepared meals that are easy to reheat for approximately 2 weeks post the operation

Shoulder / Elbow Surgery

  • Blood thinning medications / anticoagulants
    • Blood thinning medications are to be ceased 7 days prior to your operation
    • Please discuss the cessation of your blood thinning medications with Dr Robinson
  • Physiotherapy / hand therapy
    • To obtain the best outcome from surgery Dr Robinson Recommends that you attend a physiotherapist before and after your surgery
    • Our staff will confirm your preferred location for physiotherapy post operatively in addition to an appointment
  • Pre-operative wash
    • To decrease the perioperative risk of infection associated with your surgery Dr Robinson recommends;
      • Benzyl peroxide AC wash 5% on the operative limb / shoulder both morning and night for 5 days prior to surgery
        Plus
      • 4% Chlorhexidine pre-operative body wash the night prior and the day of your surgery
  • Jewellery
    • Please remove all jewellery from the operative limb the day prior to surgery.

      • Work - a period off work will be required - Dr Robinson is happy to provide you with an appropriate medical certificate

Day of Surgery Instructions

Fasting Instructions

  • Fast for 6 hours prior.
  • Sips of water until 2 hours prior.
  • Present to hospital 2 hours prior to your surgical time.

  • Prior to your surgery each hospital requires you to complete a clerical pre-admission. Please have the following information ready when you fill in your online admission form.
